Ice Skating in Frankfurt

Looking for something fun to do when the weather is cold? Why not go Ice Skating ? Frankfurt has a large rink called the Eisporthalle, on the East side of town, which is very easy to reach using public transportation. They have a large indoor rink where the Frankfurt Lions play hockey, and a huge outdoor ring that also includes a large rink that has sort of a cover over it. If you have teens, they might enjoy the Sat. night Ice Disco which is held fairly often. Just check the website for dates. Though the website is in German, it is not too difficult to navigate. Clicking on the webcam gives you a good idea of the size of the place. The outdoor ring is a lot of fun as it surrounds the entire tennis court area. Skating at night can be a great way to work off all those schnitzels and be romantic too.

How to get there? Take the U-7 from the Hauptwache and get off at the Eisporthalle. If you like riding above ground so you can see the city, take the #12 tram from the Konstablerwache and get off at the Eisporthalle stop. Alternatively, you can take Bus #34 or the U-4 and get off at Bornheim Mitte and then either walk or take the #12 tram 3 stops to the Eissporthalle.

Costs are varied depending on season, age, groups, etc. but the basic cost for an adult is 7 € in the winter, and kids age 6-17 are 5 €. Prices are lower when it isn't the main skating season. If your child looks like they might be an adult, it is better if they have some sort of ID to show that they are not 18. Skate rental is 4.50 € during the main season, and 3.50 € during the before and after seasons. They do require some sort of ID to be left as a deposit. They have all kinds of group prices, so if you want to go with a school or church group, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, or any other club, discounts are available. They don't have birthday parties, but birthday children under 18 get in free on the day of their birthday, and you can also reserve a table in the snack bar - "Cool Running".

Hours are from 09:00 - 22:30 from beginning Nov. to middle of March.
They also have shorter hours, depending on the weather from 1 Sept. to 1 Nov. and end of March until Easter. Best is to call and ask during these before and after season dates.
The Eissporthalle is also on Facebook.

The outside rink is open when it is cold enough. No Ice Skating in the summer months at all.
